How to Study The Bible

The Bible sometimes people say The Bible is old and I don’t understand it or how do I study it?

Some things we don’t want to do.

Don’t try to make a point and ruin the proper interpretation or True meaning.

Don’t try to make the verse say something it isn’t saying.

Don’t try to make the Bible say what You want it to say

Be careful about saying I think this verse means this or what does this verse

mean to you?

Some times bible Study can be allot of people sitting around telling what they

don’t know about a verse.

1Tim 5:17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor,

especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. NKJV

First we have to bridge a gap of time. Some parts of The Bible were written almost 4000 years ago. What were they talking about back then?

1st-Language Gap;

Most of it was written in Hebrew, some in Greek and then some in Aramaic.

Paul in 1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. KJV

Ministers in the Greek is Hupeerétas (huper ra tas) means a 3rd grade galley slave.

In the book of Hebrews we find them talking about being perfect, not in our actions but our salvation.

Get a Vines dictionary and it’ll translate every Hebrew or Greek word to English.

A Strong’s Concordance will work too.

2nd- The Culture Gap;

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. KJV

Why didn’t they just say “Before Jesus was born he was already in the beginning.”

What they were saying is “That thing which caused everything that cosmic power is none other than Jesus which became flesh.”

To the Jews it was always the manifestation of God.

If we don’t understand the Jewish beliefs we have a tough time with Matthew.

Edersheim is very good with the explanation of the differences in our cultures.

3rd- The Geography Gap;

Down to Jericho what does that mean? Jerusalem is up, it’s up to everything it’s on a high plateau.

1 Thess. 1:8 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. NKJV

How can this happen, in every place?

The Agnation Highway, which ran thru Thessalonica was the main highway from East to West and everyone that came thru there heard of this and it spread.

Lazarus being raised from the dead, how did Jerusalem hear about it so quickly, Bethany was butted up against Jerusalem to the East only a mile or so from the Temple? News traveled fast about a man being raised from the dead.

4th- History Gap;

A little history study will help you understand scripture also.

Pilot and his emperor worship had infuriated the Jews when he came to Jerusalem and he had messed up 3 times already, so when it came to crucifying Jesus he had to or loose his job.
